Mubasher: Kuwait has pledged to donate $40 million in contribution to international efforts aimed to fund research on a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine and treatment, raising the country’s total donations for the cause to $100 million so far.

The announcement was made by Kuwait's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al Mohammad Al Sabah, during an online summit hosted by the European Commission on Monday, considering the donation a part of Kuwait's efforts to support the conference and future global endeavours against the virus spread.

He further thanked the European Union (EU) and all participating parties for hosting the summit and emphasised Kuwait’s readiness to closely cooperate in combating the global pandemic.

In addition, he clarified that Kuwait has donated $60 million to the World Health Organisation (WHO) since the virus’ outbreak to help the most affected countries.

The coronavirus global response conference was held yesterday with the participation of the EU, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Spain, and the UK.
