Cairo – Egypt’s unemployment rate inched down to 7.2% in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020, compared to 7.3% in Q3-20, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The fall in unemployment rate was ascribed to the return of business activities with the lifting of the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, the CAPMAS said in a statement on Monday.

The total number of employees reached 29.965 million in the October-December period of 2020, up by 6.4% from 28.171 million in the July-September period.

The urban labour force amounted to 13.161 million, while rural labour force reached 16.804 million.

Male employees stood at 24.577 million, whereas female employees stood at 5.388 million.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed people registered 2.166 million in Q4-20, up from 2.061 million in Q3-20.
