MANAMA: A decision to dismiss several Bapco staff due to the economic impact of Covid-19 will not affect any Bahraini employee, Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) reiterated yesterday.

Bahrainisation is one of the company’s key strategies with focus on training and development, it said.

The company seeks to boost Bahrainisation rates through training and replacement of expatriates with locals, it added.

This came as Bapco Workers Union held a meeting with the management on Tuesday to discuss an internal memo issued to all staff by Bapco chairman and chief executive Dr Dawood Nassif concerning dismissal of several employees.

The termination decision applies only to expatriate staff whose contracts have expired and not renewed, the management stressed.
