DOHA: Motorists would soon be able to get their cars inspected and acquire road permits after paying insurance and other fees within 20 to 30 minutes at Woqod (Qatar Fuel) service stations, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.
"We plan to have a single-window road permit issuance system at Woqod stations soon," a senior official of 'Fahis', Eid Al Kubaisi, was quoted as saying.
'Fahis' is the name of the company which currently inspects vehicles and clears them for road permit issuance.
The former Qatar Technical Inspection Company was merged with Woqod in 2009 and the new company was named 'Fahis'.
Once in place, motorists would be able to get their cars inspected and at the same time pay insurance money and the permit fee and take the road permit.
Al Kubaisi said plans are also afoot to allow big garages to inspect the cars and issue road permits in future. Studies to the effect are going on and big garages that are equipped with the needed equipment and devices could be permitted to issue road permits, he said.
