MUSCAT -- The Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, recently received here Tim C Weil, President of United World Schools, which is based in the UK, in the presence of several OCCI members and representatives of the Oman-British Friendship Society.

During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of opening a branch of the United World Schools here in the Sultanate. The schools are characterised by their style of international system of educational and their role in enhancing the quality of education for students in pre-university study.

The Chairman gave an overview of the investment climate of the Sultanate and the economic opportunities available, as well as facilities and benefits provided to local and foreign investors, especially in the field of education. This sector is seen as one of the country's promising sectors, as there is still a need for major investments in a variety of areas -- including establishment of universities, colleges and private schools.

Further, specialised educational programmes are seen as a way of bringing about a lasting development foundation from which competent graduates can find positions in the private sector.

While the president commented on the type education system they provide, which is qualitatively different from that provided in traditional education.

One of their aims is to prepare and inculcate in the students personal leadership, love of work, self-development and social participation, which is achieved through the use of the latest modern teaching methods. He noted, with the Sultanate's diverse terrain, geographical nature and location of cities and townships, a great opportunity exists for successfully incorporating these types of schools.

At the end of the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of continuing cooperation and co-ordination between the two sides, so as to reach desired goals in support of the education sector and to contribute towards building a generation armed with benefits of knowledge, which adds to the greater contribution of society and national development.
