KYIV, Oct. 9th, 2011 (WAM) -- Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex (NSC Olimpiyskiy), the UEFA European Football Championship EURO 2012 main sports arena that will host the UEFA EURO 2012 final game, opens in Kyiv.
As many as 58,000 guests were invited to the opening ceremony for the refreshed NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv, the country's key sports arena. A strong army of fans were offered a two-hour show with more than 2,000 artists and volunteers. The reconstructed scene has seen sport legends and young players. President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych addressed the participants and guests in his congratulatory speech. More than 500 performing artist from Germany, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Poland and prominent Ukrainian stars were entertaining guests of the ceremony. The opening extravaganza ended with a 40-minute performance of famous Colombian pop singer Shakira and pyrotechnic show, UKRINFOM reports. With a capacity of more than 70,000 seats, the stadium is now one of the largest in Europe. The arena heads the list of UEFA EURO 2012 top projects, which will be commissioned by the end of 2011. The cost of reconstruction of the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kyiv is amounted to near USD 560-585 millions. As Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov has said before, it is projected that the NSC Olimpiyskiy will pay back in two years.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2011.
