DUBAI - An automated powder coating plant, integrated substation automation and control centre (iSACC) and Products Display Centre were formally opened at the ETA-PCS Switchgear factory in Al Quoz yesterday. Part of the hugely-diversified ETA-Ascon Group, the ETA-PCS is the manufacturer of electrical switchgear, controls, automation and sheet metal fabrications.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Syed M. Salahuddin, managing director of ETA-Ascon Group, Arif B. Rahman, director of finance at ETA-Ascon Group, Ahmed Al Ghurair, and K.S. Noor Mohammed, Director of ETA-PCS Switchgear Manufacturing LLC.

Noor Mohammed said the first automated powder coating plant will take the factory's total capacity to 60,000 square metres per month. There is a manual plant with a capacity of 15,000 square metres per month.

The new plant features new technology in oven designs and dual track arrangement (DTA) that will ensure quality control and uniform finish of the products. There will be an overall saving of over 40 per cent in fuel/power consumption through the Dh700,000 facility.

The iSACC is a state-of-the-art centre of excellence offering under one roof engineering, design, integration, configuration and testing
services. The official said ETA-PCS will be carrying out projects on behalf of GE Energy Services in the entire Middle East. The Products Display Centre will showcase the finished products of the ETA-PCS and Star elevators.

In his speech, Mr Salahuddin traced the history of the company which was established nearly 20 years ago. He underscored the need for more automation at the factory in line with the global trend. He said the company should focus on entering into the high-voltage switchgear
business in the near future. Rahman said the ETA-Ascon Group has over 2,500 engineering staff on its payrolls.
