ADDIS ABABA, 30th July, 2013 (WAM) -- The UAE Embassy in Addis Ababa, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of the Republic of Ethiopia, has implemented its project to supply Iftar meals to the needy at Al Noor and Kera mosques, both of which were built at the expense of the UAE in commemoration of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with three other major mosques in the Ethiopian capital. The project is funded by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation, Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and the Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

The project benefits more than 1120 fasting Muslims daily, so as to enable the needy who are fasting this month to break their fast in an atmosphere of brotherhood. The project is implemented in the form of Iftar banquets, in addition to the distribution of meals in some mosques.

This is the second year that the project has been implemented in Ethiopia, and comes as part of world-wide Ramadan programmes that are implemented by UAE charity institutions and overseas embassies.

Khyar Mohammed Aman, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia, thanked and expressed appreciation to the UAE government, the Khalifa Foundation and the Zayed bin Sultan Foundation, as well as the Red Crescent Authority.

He also declared his appreciation of the role of Dr. Yousuf Essa Hassan Al Sabri, the UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia and the Acting Charge d'Affaires, Ali bin Sa'ad Al Omaira, for their tireless efforts in the implementation of charitable and humanitarian projects and work to strengthen relations between the two countries.
