The Tunisian government is hoping to attract a foreign company to operate the Enfidha airport under concession terms and there is no shortage of interest among international firms. The airport will be established in the central-east region of the country and will cost some TND 585 million to build. A tender was issued in April 2004 and a short list of prequalified bidders was established on July 3rd.  The airport will be on 5,700 hectares of land.

The three best positioned bidders are Germany's Hochtief Airport, South Africa's Airport Company South Africa Ltd., and France's Aroports de Paris, which is partnering with the construction firm Vinci Construction Grands Projets.

However, there are also other bidders, including a group of three companies from the United States, Italy and Argentina, with American International Airport, Gemmo, and Corporacion America, respectively, the Mexican companies Aeropuertos Y Servicios Auxiliares and Immobiliaria Fumisa, two Turkish companies Tepe Insaat and Akfen, and partnering together are a group of companies in relations with the Nice-Cote d'Azur airport authorities.
