Dubai, Mar 08th, 2012 (WAM)--Deputy Consul General Ian Gibbons hosted a reception last night at the British Embassy in Dubai on the occasion of the Trucial Oman Scouts visit to the UAE.
The reception was attended by 60 members of the Trucial Oman Scouts and a number of senior UAE dignitaries including diplomats, historians, military officials and those with a keen interest in the cultural heritage of the UAE. Mike Curtis and Hugh Nicklin gave presentations on behalf of the Trucial Oman Scouts sharing experiences and images of UAE that go back to the fifties and sixties of the last century. Gibbons said: "The return of the Trucial Oman Scouts to the UAE is a demonstration of the exceptional historic links between the UK and the UAE. The Scouts played a critical role in the establishment of the federation as we know it today and in many respects laid the foundations to the ongoing and exceptionally close relationship between both countries." The reception included a "historic corner" that exhibited old coins, banknotes and letters. The "historic corner" was arranged by Abdullah Bin Jasim Al Mutairy, Ahmed Al Hasawi and Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage. Trucial Oman Scouts visit to the UAE is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the foundation of their force which was responsible for peace keeping and security at the time.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2012.
