Riyadh - Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) produced, during 2013, about 1,006,565,027 cubic meters of desalinated water and 24,884,807 MW electricity through 27 desalination plants with a production covers 41 cities and housing complexes across the regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The SWCC's daily production is 3,6 million cubic meters, equivalent to 60% of the Kingdom's production and it produces over its dual-purpose plants 5000 MW/h of electrical energy which is equivalent to 09% of the electricity produced in the Kingdom, making the SWCC the second electricity producer after Saudi Electricity Company.
The SWCC's annual report disclosed that the year 2013/2014 witnessed the launch of Yanbu multi-effect desalination plant with a production capacity of 68,190 cubic meters of water per day and Jeddah reverse osmosis plant 3 with a production capacity of 240,000 cubic meters of water per day.
It also witnessed the signing of a contract of Yanbu plant 3 with a would-be production capacity of 550,000 cubic meters of water per day and 2,500 megawatts of electricity.
The SWCC's annual report indicated that last year witnessed the export of 495.3 million cubic meters of water from the east coast stations, by 49,2% of the Corporation's total export and 511.3 million cubic meters of water from the west coast stations by 50,8%.
The total amount of water exported from Al-Shuaiba stations was about 165 million cubic meters to feed Makkah, the holy sites, Jeddah and Taif, and from Jeddah stations was 160.1 million cubic meters to feed the city of Jeddah after increasing the export capacity through the entry of Jeddah reverse osmosis station 3 into service with a production capacity of 240,000 cubic meters per day, while the amount of water exported from Yanbu plants was 137.1 million cubic meters to feed Madinah, Yanbu and provinces located on the path of the water pipelines after increasing the export capacity through the entry of Yanbu expansion station operating by multi-effect distillation purification technology into service with a production capacity of 68,190 cubic meters per day.
