Beirut (APD) -The Omani state-owned Sohar Aluminium Company has awarded France's ALSTOM a 425 million euros deal ($504.1 million) for the turnkey construction of a 1000 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Oman, ALSTOM said on Wednesday.
The project is scheduled to start in mid-December and would be completed in June 2008.
Under the contract, ALSTOM would provide the engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the plant, located in Sohar, Oman.
ALSTOM would also engage in a 15 year long-term service agreement for gas turbines, generators and auxiliary equipment.
The power plant will provide electric supply to Sohar's new aluminum smelter.
The plant will be based on ALSTOM GT13E2 gas-turbine technology, ALSTOM said on its website.
ALSTOM will supply four of these turbines together with four heat recovery steam generators, two steam turbines, six generators, a digital control system and a balance of plant, the company statement revealed.
The order also includes an option for Sohar to add an extra 500 MW of capacity in the future by acquiring additional equipment from ALSTOM. [SN-FC]
