Damascus - Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban on Monday said that President Bashar al-Assad's speech at the Economic Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (COMCEC) focused on the necessity of exchanging and developing knowledge among Islamic countries and the necessity of making the organization more active and dynamic.
In an interview with Syrian satellite channel, Shaaban quoted President al-Assad as saying " al-Aqsa Mosque was burnt 25 years ago; this was the occasion to establish the Organization of Islamic Conference; what will the organization do as al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem and Palestine are now subjected to the worst Zionist racial campaign of all times".
Shaaban said, "President al-Assad's initiative concerning lifting siege on Gaza called the member countries to lift the blockade over Gaza as soon as possible. This would be a great job for the organization. If the enemy is imposing blockade over our peoples, why shouldn't the member countries lift this blockade?"
Shaaban added that President al-Assad talked about the regional atmosphere, and that we should not imagine that prosperity and stability can be imported, but we are the ones who make independence, stability and prosperity.
She said that the atmosphere of the meeting between President al-Assad and Turkish President Abdullah Gul and meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the Summit indicate to a true intention and strategic vision between Syria, Turkey and Iran to change this regional atmosphere into an active one that would change the future of this region, hoping that Iraq would join this troika actively in the near future.
