A giant Areeka measuring 4x4m and 25 cm thick will be fielded as an entry into Guinness World Records as the biggest dish in the world.

Areeka is a traditional dish strongly tied to Saudi culture. It looks very much like pancakes with honey, bran and butter poured over it.

The preparation of the SR120,000 dish, to be monitored by representatives from Guinness, will be held at the Marina Coast in Durrat Al-Arous on Thursdays.

The event is being organized by Evenx Saudi Arabia, which also handled the recently concluded Jeddah Festival.

"Our main goal is to come up with authentic Areeka the way it was prepared during the time of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)," said Hattan Morad, the General Manager of Evenx Saudi Arabia.

He added that Guinness had already checked and found no dish as large as the Areeka about to be made.

Live bands will perform traditional folklore music during the event. A motorcycle show will also take place at the unveiling of the record dish.

Servings of the giant Areeka will be distributed to the audience that night, with leftovers going to charity.
