Saudi Aramco Makes Oil Discovery South Of Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco announced on 20 February it had made a new oil discovery at a location south of the giant Ghawar field, the first hydrocarbon discovery reported by the company alone in 2007. The Derwaza-1 well flowed oil at 3,915 b/d with 11.9mn cfd of associated gas, SPA cited Oil Minister Ali Naimi as saying. He added that the well was expected to produce at higher levels. Lukoil Saudi Arabia Energy (Luksar) announced on 12 February that following deep exploration drilling on the Tukhman structure in Block A in Saudi Arabia’s Rubʹal-Khali, it had discovered “hydrocarbon accumulations” (MEES, 19 February).
