SALAHADDIN - Members of Iraqi Parliament on the al-Iraqiya list do not consider withdrawing from the list "for now" due to disputes over the election of the Commissioners Board of the country's electoral commission.

Salahaddin MPs from the al-Iraqiya complained upon a vote on the Commissioners Board that the two members of the commission representing the Iraqiya list were chosen on tribal grounds without a consensus among the members of the list in particular those in Slahaddin province.

The two al-Iraqiya members who were chosen by their list for the positions, Srour Hantoush, and Katee Mukhlif Katee are from the western province of Anbar.

Ahmed Karim, deputy governor of Salahaddin province, revealed during a special conference on Tuesday that the elders and people of the province have called on their representatives in the Iraqi Parliament to withdraw from the Iraqiya list, accusing it of holding behind curtains deals regarding the selection of the Commissioners Board.

MP Shaalan Karim said: "The representatives of Salahaddin in the Iraqiya list will hold a meeting with the people of the province to talk with them about the issue and follow up their demands."

"We are waiting for the return of the head of the list Ayad Allawi to attend the meeting to make decisions... and move away from tribal and sectarian quotas..."

While the member of the Iraqiya list in Salahuddin Jamal al-Kilani said "The Iraqi MPs in Salahaddin do not intend to withdraw from the list at the present time, but there are attempts to reach a settlement within the province."

The member of Iraqiya from Salahuddin province Mutashar al-Samarrai said that "The demand of the people and tribes in Salahaddin is a democratic demand and expresses the freedom of opinion."

The Council of Representatives voted Monday by majority on naming eight members for the electoral commission leaving the ninth seat for political consensus.

The council did not vote on the ninth candidate due to the differences between the political blocs about the two candidates to fill the post that are the Christian candidate from Kirkuk Yubert Bunnel Eliah and the Turkmen candidate from Baghdad Kulshan Kamal Ali.
