Dubai: For the past week, before the sun warms the shallow waters of the Abu Dhabi shores, workers have reported seeing a 5 to 6 meter-long shark swimming around the ships near the Mina Port, Abu Dhabi.

"It comes very close to the surface and it's about the size of your car, but I don't think it's a white shark," one fisherman told Gulf News early Thursday morning.

Several of the men working in the ship yard concurred the shark is approximately 6 meters, which would make it either a whale shark or a white shark. Typically, a white shark would only be found in cool waters, while the whale shark is more likely to appear in tropical or warmer waters such as that of the Gulf.

The whale shark is the largest fish species, with potential growth of being 12 meters long.
