DOHA: Qtel is eyeing the development of next generation IPVPN (Internet Protocol, Virtual Private Network) for companies across Qatar as solutions to ensure full mobility and security for internal communication.
The plan was raised during the discussions this week at the "Breakfast with Business Solutions", a regular session hosted by the Qtel to leading small and medium businesses.
The discussions dwelt around examining the new solutions being deployed by companies around the world to better control communication costs and to ensure streamlined information sharing with offices across the region and around the world.
Many successful companies in Qatar are looking to offer seamless integration of voice and data networks under one IP network infrastructure, and deploying customised IP-VPN services.
"As a company that enables customers to take goods and services around the world, the information about the next generation of IPVPN services was extremely useful for us, said Delfir Fernandes, of Inchape Shipping Services.
He said Qtel provides robust communication support, and it was good to know that they are investing in the next generation of technology for customers. Another area under discussion was the new range of Closed User Group Services from Qtel, which enable companies to create communities of employees and stakeholders, who can then make calls and receive calls from members within the group at a special rate.
Closed User Groups are becoming an increasingly popular way for companies to manage costs effectively, particularly given the frequency with which employees call the same mobile numbers.
Prasanth Menon of Petrofac Qatar, noted that the sessions were extremely useful in helping to clarify upcoming business solutions from Qtel, especially the unified communication technology which Qtel and Microsoft are jointly planning to introduce in Qatar.
