LONDON (Dow Jones)-- Qatargas, the world's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas, said Monday it will shut down its Qatargas-1 plant in April for planned maintenance.

Qatargas-1 consists of three onshore LNG trains with a total combined capacity of 10 million metric tons a year.

"Qatargas operates a rolling program of planned maintenance at its facilities," a Qatargas spokesperson said. "These necessary, planned and safe shutdowns are coordinated with all parties of our operations, shipping and customers as part of our annual maintenance planning."

Qatargas-1 is controlled by Qatargas, while Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), Total SA (TOT), Mitsui & Co. Ltd. (8031.TO) and Marubeni Corp. (8002.TO) all have smaller stakes.

Its main markets are Japan and Spain.
