DOHA: Qatar University and Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) yesterday renewed an agreement for its Polymer Chair to develop new research, application and training programmes on plastic industry to the university students.
Dr Mohd Yousuf Al Mulla,Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Qapco, personally handed the cheque for the three-year project to Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, QU President, at a ceremony held at the QU Administration Building.
Under the agreement, Qapco will provide an annual investment of QR950,000 to support the Chair.
Aside from research, the Polymer Chair will be also integrated into undergraduate students' projects, graduate thesis and summer internship/training programmes to boost sharing of knowledge at all levels.
"There's so much we can develop in this area because of the ever changing technologies nowadays," said Dr Al Mulla in his remarks at the signing rites. He said the company has been supporting QU on Research and Development to develop top quality polymer chair in Qatar.
"We believe that the support and development of polymer expertise is vital to the country's future success and by developing skilled graduates, we are demonstrating our continuing mission to engage the needs of the community towards realising the sustainability of Qatar National Vision 2030", Dr Al Mulla pointed out.
Professor Al Misnad said QU has already developed good relationship with QAPCO over the years that it had gone into partnership with various worthy projects.
Rashid Abdulla Al Sulaiti, Qapco Group Manager at Administration department, said the project will benefit much the younger generation of professionals and will go a long way in helping several students succeed in their careers.
Asked for an impression over the renewed project, the head of QU's Chemistry Department said polymer science will add more value to Qatar's natural resources and the company is thinking ahead for better of its people.
