Doha - Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in partnership with the College of North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) will organise an International Neonatal Respiratory symposium.

The three-day event, to be opened at CNA-Q on Thursday, would be marked by the presence of world renowned experts in the field.

At a joint press meet, held at HMC here yesterday, Dr Hilal Al Reif, Director, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), HMC and Linda Doody, Dean of Health Science, CAN-Q said the symposium will also include workshops on inhaled nitric oxide, high frequency ventilation and respiratory therapy and nursing care for the ventilated patient.

Effect of delivery room management on respiratory outcome, the lung protective strategies in the premature infant, high frequency mechanical ventilation and modes of ventilation and wave forms are the topics to be discussed at the opening session.

Strategies to optimise conventional ventilation, chronic lung disease of premature of infants, Introtropic support of ventilated infants, intrauterine pulmonary intervention are some of the topics to be discussed on the second day.

The second day would also witness a series of workshops focusing on ventilation strategies, fluid therapy, noise level, inspiration and expiratory time and delivery room management. Demonstration of ventilators and hands-on ventilation practice available following the workshops.

Neonatal respiratory therapy in the new millennium, sedation and ventilation, Oxygen therapy management of infants with severe hypoxemic respiratory failure and recent advances in surgical management are some of the topics to be discussed on the concluding day.

"The symposium is an international event and prominent speakers from around the world will participate in it. Over 200 delegates have already confirmed their presence", said Linda Doody.
