DOHA: They City Center on Wednesday launched its Ramadan campaign titled “shop to win upto QR10,000 daily,” which is accompanied with a charitable drive, competitions for children and several traditional activities.

During the campaign, shoppers who make cash purchases of QR200 and above will enter a daily draw to win gift vouchers worth QR2,500 each accepted at all City Center outlets, Julie Rae, Marketing and Leasing Manager of the City Center said at a press conference on Wednesday. Yazid Bitar, managing director, Fortune Promoseven also attended the press conference.

The offer will be valid until May 30. With all stores participating and four daily winners, there is a greater chance for shoppers to win, she added. City Center has also announced a grand prize of QR20,000 daily during the four days of Eid Al Fitr.

Shoppers will also get an opportunity to donate for charitable purposes during the Holy month of Ramadan through “blue bags” introduced by the City Center in co-ordination with the Qatar Charitable Society (QCS). The items donated in the blue bags will be collected and distributed by QCS to needy families and orphans. The donation drive is complimented by hosting needy families at dedicated tents inside the shopping complex. Revenue from the sale of traditional goods at the tents will go towards qcs charitable projects.

Activities with a taste of traditions include Tamarind, a refreshing cold drink, served in the complex every day between 8.30pm and 10pm. “Tamarind’s sour, fruity and tart taste merges well with the slash of rose water added before serving. Tamarind is laxative, refreshing after breaking a fast and eases heart burns,’’ the official said.

The big Fanous (4m x 7.5m lantern) hung above the ice rink and the yellow light curtains add to the traditional ambience. Families will be treated to authentic music of the Arabic traditional band every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 8.30pm and 11.30pm. And there is Mohammed, a pearl diver of the yore , who opens shells for the visitors at the second level of the complex infront of the elevator. A “straw man” is located on the third level, creating straw handicrafts.

A drawing competition has been held for children during the Holy month. The first competition was titled “My Ramadan” which will be followed by Garangaou, My Lantern and My Eid. The competition will be held every Thursday and Friday between 8pm and 10pm in a dedicated children’s area behind Starbuck’s and Modern Home.
