KUWAIT: Qatar Airways has brought together local travel agencies and business partners to recognize those companies who have contributed the highest level of value and support to the airline over the last year. More than 100 travel industry representatives as well as members of the media attended the airline's festive, "Travel Agent Award Night 2011-12″ held at the Sheraton Hotel Kuwait.

In appreciation of outstanding business performance in the local Kuwait market, Qatar Airways honored the top 9 travel agents based on their achievements during the last financial year at the glittering gala dinner event.

Qatar Airways Country Manager Mohammed Al Jumairi thanked the guests and praised them for the ongoing business partnerships that have been established in Kuwait.

"Qatar Airways values the role that the travel trade industry plays in reaching our customers and encouraging them to fly with us and experience our award-winning five star service," said Al Jumairi.

With support from Travel Agencies, Qatar Airways is continuing to grow worldwide on an unprecedented level achieving continual expansion year on year," he added.

The awards were presented by the Country Manager, Sales Manager Mayssam Dabbous and Corporate Sales Manager Fiona Garbiel. Al Shamel Travels won the Gold trophy followed by Jumbo Travels winning the Silver trophy. Boodai Aviation bagged Bronze trophy while TVS Travels won the trophy for Outstanding Growth.

The Kuwait - Doha route has been a solid performer in the airline's regional network, seeing services expanded to seven-times daily at the beginning of the month and the 8th frequency starting in just two months time, on June 1.

As part of its 2012 expansion program, Qatar Airways launched flights to Tbilisi (Georgia), Baku (Azerbaijan), and Kigali (Rwanda). The carrier has a further 11 new routes to be inducted during the year, namely Perth, Zagreb, Gassim, Helsinki, Belgrade, Erbil, Baghdad, Yangon, Mombasa, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro.

Qatar Airways has orders worth over $50 billion for more than 250 aircraft, including Boeing 787s, 777s, Airbus A350s, A380s and A320 Family of aircraft. The rapid expansion of Qatar Airways prompted the State of Qatar to embark on one of its biggest projects - the construction of a brand new international airport in Doha, which is scheduled to open in 2012.

In addition to winning Skytrax's prestigious Airline of the Year 2011 award last summer, Qatar Airways was named Best Airline in the Middle East for the sixth year in a row, and its Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport was named Best First Class Airline Lounge.
