DOHA: Passengers booking a ticket to any destination on the Qatar Airways route network can now order special meals that correspond to their specific dietary needs.

"Our mission to take each and every one of our passengers personally and to make their journey with Qatar Airways as pleasant as possible, includes taking their individual dietary needs into account," said General Manager Commercial Mohammed Saleh Fakhri, in a press statement issued yesterday.

"We have a lot of passengers who either have religious restraints on their diets or have health problems which require them to watch what they eat, and we understand that in such cases, the choice of food available on the aircraft may not be suitable," he added.

The airline offers different options such as vegetarian meals, diabetic meals, meals prepared without lactose, for those who are lactose intolerant; and low-cholesterol meals for those who have to follow a strict diet for health reasons.

"Obviously we are also considering our youngest passengers, with infant and baby food available and special children's meals for those a little older. There are 22 different dietary meal options available upon special request, suited to our passengers' specific needs," said Fakhri.

The dietary option will have to be pre-ordered at the time of booking a ticket with Qatar Airways, and its reservation clerks would advise on the details at the time.

The airline will not deal with any special requests at check-in time or on-board, as the specific meals would have to be prepared on an individual basis in advance, said the statement.
