DOHA: Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) has signed a long term contract with Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporations (BCIC) to supply 300,000 tonnes of urea to the Bangladeshi market.
With this contract Qafco will be the largest exporter of urea to Bangladesh and will capture more than 45 percent of the total share of the market.
This is considered to be a strategic move by Qafco to find more markets for its upcoming new production capacities, Qafco 5 and Qafco 6 which are slated to start production in 2011-2012.
With Qafco 5 and Qafco 6 the total urea production at facilities will reach 5.6 tonnes annually.
The contract was signed at the Qafco head office in Mesaieed by Khalifa Al Sowaidi, Managing Director of Qafco and K H Masud Siddiqui, Chairman of BCIC.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dipak Ranjan Datta, Director (Commercial) of BCIC, and from QAFCO side by Yousef Al Mansoori, Urea Sales Manager (America, Europe and Oceania) and Faisal Al Nuaimi, Urea Sales Executive.
