DOHA - Qatar Shipping Company (Q-Ship), has recently increased its fully-owned offshore fleet to seven vessels with the arrival of its new 55-tonne tanker berthing assistance tug, 'Wassit'.
The tug's arrival at Doha Port was greeted by a reception committee that included Q-Ship Chairman and Managing Director, Salem Butti Al Naimi, government officials, the Director of Bharati Shipyard Ltd and the Indian Ambassador to Qatar.
The tug, which is contracted to Qatar Petroleum for a ten year period, with work mainly at Qatar's offshore oil exporting terminal on Halul Island.
Q-Ship took delivery of a third LNG tanker in Korea at the end of March. It has part-ownership of the vessel; a further two LNG tankers are scheduled to join the fleet before the end of 2004.ÊTo date, Q-ship has committed up to 29.4 per cent equity inÊnine LNG vessels. Six new crude tankers are also to join the Q-Ship fleet between October next year and June 2006.

MORE than 55 companies are expected to participate in Qatar International Hi-Tec 2004 Exhibition and Conference, to be held under theÊpatronage of the country's Minister of Economy and Trade, Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, from April 18th to the 21st.
The theme of the event is e-government, and a number of business representatives will also be addressing the conference on the topic of e-business.
Organisations and companies from the government and private sectors will be participating in the event, including those with interests in information systems, security programming and office automation. ÊMicrosoft Corporation is the main sponsor of the event, organised by World Trade Center Company (WTCC) Qatar, to be held at the Qatar International Exhibition Center. Qatar's e-Government is the Titanium sponsor, while the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) and the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) are the Gold sponsors.
The Ministry of Education is the Silver sponsor.

Also present was Simon Lee, General Manager of LG's AC Marketing Group. Outlining the range, technical specifications of LG air-conditioners in the commercial sector, company officials pointed to the fact that LG hasÊbeen voted 'World Top AC Manufacturer' consistently for the past 4 years. The Qatar market for air-conditioners has been estimated as between 90,000 and 100,000 units for 2004, and is expected to grow at a rate of over 15 per cent until 2006.
