Damascus - President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo affirmed on Monday the importance of her visit to Syria, pointing out that this visit, along with the opening of her country's embassy in Damascus, will bolster relations between the two countries and the mutual economic interest, referring to the thousands of Filipinos who live in Syria.
In a statement, President Macapagal-Arroyo expressed her country's interest and desire to develop and bolster relations with Syria by increasing Filipino investment in Syria.
She added that peace is an integral part of the Philippines commitment, expressing hope that Syria, which will host the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Foreign Ministers, will play a role in achieving peace in the Philippines' Mindanao region.
