DOUZ (TAP) - In his address on Thursday afternoon at the opening of the 44th Douz International Sahara Festival, President Moncef Marzouki stressed the need to give proof of patience, put an end to sit-ins that cause instability and discourage national and foreign investments and give a chance to the new government.

He outlined the importance for Tunisia's people to realise that great challenges are facing the new government "which will work in close collaboration with the President of the Republic and the Speaker of Constituent Assembly" to restore confidence, reinforce democracy and put an end to injustice and oppression.

The President had visited Kebili on Thursday morning and held three successive meetings at the governor's office.  The first meeting gathered representatives of the families of the revolution martyrs and wounded people who claimed the setting up of specialised commissions representing all the regions to make up for the damage suffered and hold killers to account.

The second meeting was devoted to listening in to local unemployed youths' concerns. Four young people among them briefed the president about the situation in the region, saying that they numbered over 14 000, including 9000 university graduates and that the unemployment rate there stood at about 43 per cent.

The third meeting gathered delegates of families of several prisoners arrested during the unrest in the governorate of Kebili in the third term of the current year. The President promised to look at these cases in compliance with the law.
