Dushanbe - Iran's Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar She'rdoust said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will inaugurate a number of projects during his Tajikistan visit to take place in late August. Outlining the objectives of the Iranian President's visit to Tajikistan, he said the President is scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the Sangtuda-2 dam and its hydroelectric power plant.

He will also finalize a contract on construction of a power plant near Zarafshan river by Iranian engineers and experts, he added.

The ambassador put the total cost of the contract at dlrs 220 million of which Tajikistan will pay only dlrs 40 million.

The construction project of the dam on Vakhsh river as well as its 220-megawatt power plant called Sangtuda-2 started by an Iranian company in early 2006.

According to She'rdoust, management of the dam which will produce one billion kw/h electricity once fully implemented will go to Tajikistan after 12 years of implementation by Iran.

The President will also put the last signature on a contract to build a hydroelectric power plant near Zarafshan river by Iranian experts during his imminent visit to Tajikistan, the ambassador said.

She'rdoust said President Ahmadinejad will also inaugurate or start a number of other projects run by Iranian engineers in Tajikistan including a tunnel and a cement factory.
