DOHA: The Pearl-Qatar will launch its two exotic facilities -- Qanat Quartier and Medina Centrale -- by the end of this year, a senior official said yesterday.

About 65 percent of the properties in the luxury island has already been sold out and the investors come from different nationalities, said Abdulrahim Al Ibrahim, director of the The Pearl-Qatar Central Authority Directorate (TCAD) addressing a press conference.

With more than 3,000 people currently living on the island, the number of residents continues to see significant growth, he added.

Qanat Quartier features canals reminiscent of Venetian waterfront living, 400,000 sq ft of 'festival' shopping, stylish townhouses and apartments, Marina with 200 moorings, sailing club and boutique, and beachfront hotel.

With its colourful Venetian character, Qanat Quartier is carefully planned around intricate canals and pedestrian-friendly squares and plazas.

Each waterway is spanned by stylish bridges which further evoke the soul of Italian romantic living. Beach and marina buildings have been specially designed to support the vibrant marine community.

A sailing clubhouse, architecturally themed after elements of the Tuscan countryside, will create a focal point for residents and visitors alike.

Medina Centrale is the 'town centre' of The Pearl-Qatar, offering a very different residential, shopping and leisure experience compared to other precincts.

A low-rise development based around a town square and adjacent streets, it will feature numerous parks and open spaces, all of which will link and serve nearby residential areas and make for both a lively environment and a place for celebrations.
