The Algerian power sector has a new plant with the opening this week of a new power station in Oum El-Bouaghi. The Fkirina plant was built over a 16 month period by the French engineering firm Alstom.
The plant, which is owned and operated by utility firm Sonelgaz boasts a capacity of 292.4 megawatts (MW), produced through two turbines of 146.2 MW each. Sonelgaz spent DZD 11.32 billion for a plant that will supply the region with power.
The inauguration of the Fkirina plant happened two weeks after Sonelgaz hired the German engineering firm Siemens to build another 500 MW plant in Berrouaghia.
