MUSCAT -- The Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, together with OCCI board members, business owners and entrepreneurs, received Richard Dubuque, Acting Canadian Ambassador in Saudi Arabia, and his accompanying trade delegation, at the Chamber's headquarters in the Central Business District (CBD) yesterday.

Topics discussed at the meeting included those on greater co-operation and the opportunities available between the two sides in the fields of energy, infrastructure, transport and education.

Al Khonji stressed the importance of the Canadian delegation's visit to the Sultanate and called for the increased exchange of trade delegations, because of its importance in the activation of bilateral relations and in enhancing trade between the respective private sector representatives of both countries.

While the acting ambassador expressed his country's desire to increase co-operation with the Sultanate, especially in the area of trade and investment, pointing out the distinguished relations that exist between the Sultanate and Canada. This should be exploited in the economic field, which, undoubtedly, will add to these relationships and will benefit everyone, he added.

In this regard, the OCCI chairman suggested further talks could take place during the upcoming International Conference for the Mines and Mineral Wealth exhibition, which is to be held here and in which, thanks to the approval of the delegates, Canada will be represented alongside other regional and international countries.

This event will represent an opportunity for companies and institutions specialised in the field of mining and minerals to share their experiences and expertise. It will also help attract investment opportunities in this promising area.
