MUSCAT -- The Board members of Oman Society of Contractors and senior representatives of leading contracting companies met Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry, yesterday and apprised him of various issues being pursued by the Society for the contracting community in the Sultanate. The Society was formed under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Development. Several leading contracting companies like CCC, Al Hassan, Arabian Industries, Target LLC, BEC, Galfar are members of the Society.
During the meeting the Society was represented by the Chairman of the Board, Dr P Mohammed Ali, with the Board members Amar Sulaimani, Maqbool Ali Salman, Simon Karam, C K Khanna, Nabil Nakhile, Shyam Sunder, CEO of OSC Salim Sheedi and Simon Buttery, Regional Managing Director of Carillion Alawi. From the Ministry side, the meeting was attended by the minister and Mudrik al Moosawi, DG of Industries. The Society stressed the need to develop the contractors as an 'Omani brand' and the role it would play in the process.
This way there would be a consistent quality of project delivered to the clients and will help Omani contractors in becoming world class contractors subsequently making their own position in the international construction scenario. They discussed the need to update the classification process for contractors bidding for government tenders through the bidding process in the various government organisations. The delegates also expressed views on the participation of several international contractors in Omani construction industry and the positive role these companies could play in the development of the local Omani contractors and bring them on board to international standards.
The Board members and others discussed several other issues related to contractors in Oman. The Minister concluded the meeting with a note that the Society will most definitely contribute towards the betterment of the contracting community in Oman.
