Ameropa, a Swiss-based international agri-business trader, and OQ Trading Limited (OQT), the trading arm of Oman's global integrated energy company OQ, have entered a 3-year granular urea off take agreement.
The urea is from the Oman-India Fertilizer Company’s (Omifco) fertilizer project at Sur Industrial Estate.
Ameropa's first vessel, MV Sagar Kanta completed loading on August 2 with 49,500 metric tonnes of granular urea and it's already on its way to Brazil, said a statement.
This ground-breaking deal with OQT, which is being supported by Omifco further solidifies Ameropa's role as the leading urea trading company in the world and helps it gain additional market share in strategic regions, the statement said.
The Omifco plant was built in 2005, established as the result of an initiative by Oman and India, in order to construct, own and operate a modern world scale two-train ammonia-urea fertiliser manufacturing plant at the Sur Industrial Estate in Oman. Omifco is owned 50% by Oman Oil Company (OQ), 25% by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and 25% by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO). The plant has the capacity to produce 2 x 1,750 metric tonnes/day of ammonia and 2 x 2,530 metric tonnes/day of granular urea from 2 urea plants. Annual granular urea exports are about 2 million mts.
