Honor unveiled its latest smartphone in Dubai on Monday, not only kicking off the 2019 flagship launch season but also bringing to the market another device with a hotly-anticipated new display feature.

The sub-brand of Chinese tech bigwig Huawei introduced the Honor View 20, its first device to have a so-called "punch-hole" display - a small round cut-out on its screen that houses the front camera and an alternative to the somewhat polarising notch design.

In the View 20's case, the punch-hole is located on the upper-left portion of its display, which gives the device an all-screen finish.

Chris Sunbaigong, president of Honor Middle East and Africa, said that while there are some challenges in the mobile phone segment, the continued influx of innovation will be the key to sustain growth.

"The entire smartphone industry globally had a slight growth on 2018. The overall trend whether it will grow or not depends on the technology [to be offered by manufacturers]," Chris Sunbaigong, president of Honor Middle East and Africa, told Khaleej Times ahead of his keynote at the event.

Sunbaigong added that "new innovations and more interesting features" brought into devices makes him "very optimistic" on the market this year.

And while Honor is indeed the more affordable segment of Huawei, the View 20 has not compromised on features, which includes 256GB of on-board storage, 8GB RAM, a 4000mAh battery, a 48MP camera and Huawei's Kirin 980 chipset, the same one found in its latest flagship Mate 20 series.
