Tehran, (SANA)- Grand Mufti Ahmad Badr-Eddin Hassoun stressed the necessity to intensify efforts to face the dangers and repercussions of terrorism and exterminate the subversive takfiri thinking threatening the region and its people.

During his meeting with Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee at Iran's Shura Council's Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Hassoun asserted the key role men of religion could play in encountering takfiri thinking.

Both sides highlighted the need that all of the region's peoples and world countries stand by Syria in its war against terrorism and pressure the countries supporting the terrorist groups with money, arms, training and shelter to hold back this support.

The Mufti also met with Chairman of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency Ali Akbar Salehi and congratulated him over the successes he achieved with regard to Geneva nuclear agreement and the world's recognition of the Iranian people's right to possessing peaceful nuclear energy.

Salehi for his part renewed Iran's supportive position towards the Syrian government and people in confronting terrorism and restoring security and stability to Syria and solving its crisis through national dialogue among the Syrians themselves without any foreign interference or dictations.

Hassoun elected head of the General Assembly of World Association for the Rapprochement of Islamic Schools of Thought

Members of the General Assembly of the World Association for the Rapprochement of Islamic Schools of Thought unanimously elected during their meeting on Saturday Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun as head of the General Assembly.

In a speech after his election, Hassoun stressed the need for Islamic unity and working for a better future.

He also lauded Iran's efforts for bolstering Islamic unity, defending people, supporting the resistance, combating terrorism and extremism, and supporting Syria.

This meeting was held on the sideline of the 27th International Islamic Unity Conference which kicked off in Tehran on Friday with the participation of Syria and over 50 countries.
