HM King Mohammed VI inaugurated on Thursday a boarding house for young girls in the rural commune of Brikcha, 50 km from Chefchaouen, MAP news agency reported.

After having unveiled the commemorative plaque and cut a symbolic ribbon, the King enquired about the house-related services that it will provide to the rural girls. It aims at ensuring good conditions of schooling and better integration in the socio-professional life.

The social facility will have a great impact on the girls' lives in the region and contribute to a decrease of school dropping-out in Brikcha, where at least 2,000 young girls are registered in primary schools, and at least 200 others in the commune's two secondary schools.

The boarding house cost MAD 2.25 million and covers 1,500 m2. It includes dormitories with a 100-bed capacity, a library, a computer room, kitchen, warehouse, administration and sanitary blocs and other dependencies.

It was built by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in partnership with the companies for the management of water and electricity "Amendis" and "Veolia Maroc".

The house will be managed by the Islamic Charity Association of of Brikcha.

The King also laid the foundation stone for the construction of an educational training centre for women in difficult situations, funded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.

The centre will help women create revenue-generating activities. It includes a cooperative for women working in pastry goods production and marketing.

The USD 33,000 centre, to be built on 742 m2, will be managed by "Assayida Al Hourra" (Free Women) NGO.

The Sovereign also visited the Assayida Al Hourra NGO, to which he donated computers and other equipment, as well as a donation from the Mohammed V Foundation to support the association's actions for women and young girls in the region.

On his arrival, the King was greeted by Zoulikha Nasri, Advisor to the Sovereign and member of the Administration Council of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the president of the Islamic Charity Association of Brikcha and the Regional Delegate of the National Solidarity.
