KUWAIT: The Ministry of Public Works(MPW) has announced that at least 139 projects will be executed at a cost of KD 2.8 billion during the year 2010- 2011. It added that at least 132 projects will be executed during 2011-2012.
Attending the ministry's diwaniya on Monday, officials said that an electronic system to implement projects would be approved, while the paper-based system would be scrapped. They added that the ministry seeks to link all projects with concerned sectors through a comprehensive electronic system, reported Al-Watan.
Mohammed Bin Nakhi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Development and Planning, announced that programs were developed to track down projects. The project will monitor all the contracts from scratch until the delivery of the projects. The official elaborated that the MPW was the first to apply the electronic payment system. The assistant undersecretary further revealed that plans were underway to eliminate the paper-based system altogether, while referring to the ministry's training plans.
Ibtisam Al-Shemmari, Director of Information Systems noted that the electronic gate that was launched in June includes numerous information and updated data. She cited information about the ministry's various sectors and ongoing projects, adding that the ministry plans to further develop the electronic based payment system for the services it provides.
In the same vein, the Director of Planning Engineer Anwar Al-Mullah explained that one of the outstanding tasks of the department was to monitor the progress made on the government's development plan over the coming four years as well as the spending of this fiscal year's budget and the forthcoming one.
Fatima Al-Shemmari, Head of the Training Unit mentioned that there were a number of training sessions being undertaken by her department, including legal conditions, variation orders, and code of conduct. She explained that these courses were being coordinated with the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
