Damascus - Ministry of Irrigation and Japanese Agency of International Cooperation (JICA) signed on Monday meeting minutes of the second phase of establishing water information centers in al-Badia Basin.

The second phase includes providing surface and groundwater monitoring instruments and climate stations.

In addition to that, the commission cadres will be trained according to a developed information system.

JICA has established a main center of information and two sub-centers in Barada and Awaj Basin and coastal basin, Director General of Water Resources Hussein Makhlouf said.

Head of the Japanese delegation studying the project, Kenji Nagata indicated to the importance of data collected during observation to provide the Syrian government with useful information.

The second phase will make use of the information provided by the observation stations in the three basins to set new water use policies , JICA Assistant Resident Representative Takashi Hibino said in a statement to SANA, adding that it is a four-year project ( 2010-2014).
