DIBA -- As tasked by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Ministerial Committee yesterday continued its tour to the wilayats of the Governorate of Musandam.
Yesterday, the committee visited the wilayats of Madha and Diba during which it held meetings with members of the Majlis Addawla, Majlis Ash'shura, shaikhs, dignitaries and citizens.
Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Interior Minister and Chairman of the Committee, said during the meeting that the objective of the visit, as assigned by His Majesty the Sultan, is to follow up tracks of development in the Sultanate in general and the Governorate of Musandam in particular.
He pointed out that there are a number of topics that have been previously identified, so the other topics will be familiarised with during this visit by listening to citizens. Such topics related to development of the wilayats of the Governorate of Musandam, and then to be submitted to His Majesty.
The Interior Minister affirmed that the Government is fully satisfied with the comprehensive development in all parts of the Sultanate during the past 40 years of the Blessed Renaissance, however, it is important to continue the tracks of development. He also stressed in this respect the importance of listening to proposals of citizens, each in his region.
He furthered that he felt from shaikhs and dignitaries, some important developmental projects needed by the Governorate of Musandam, which are related to transport, communications, ports, health and higher education sectors. He explained during the meeting that the Government will look into a mechanism through which responding to demands of citizens in the Governorate of Musandam in relation to various tracks of development that would benefit the governorate.
Shaikhs and dignitaries in the wilayats of Madha and Diba expressed their gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty. They thanked His Majesty for the attention accorded to the governorate, praying to Allah the Almighty to protect His Majesty, grant him good health, happiness and a long life to achieve aspirations of his faithful people.
A number of citizens presented proposals to the Ministerial Committee related to enhancing aspects of development in the wilayats of the Governorate of Musandam that included expanding roads network, developing transportation between the wilayats to ease the communication process between the wilayats of the Governorate of Muscat and other regions of the Sultanate particularly the Governorate of Muscat.
The proposals also included topics related to enhancing the economic and trade movement through calling to support economic projects that assist citizens of the wilayats of Madha and Diba to join some projects, which will benefit them, in addition to rehabilitating and expanding ports in the Wilayat of Diba.
The Committee tasked to visit the Governorate of Musandam includes Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Health Minister, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Transport and Communications Minister, Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Sayyid Khalifa bin al Murdas al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam, Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Commerce and Industry Ministry's Under-Secretary for Commerce and Industry, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Higher Education Ministry's Under-Secretary and Shaikh Said bin Mohammed al Braiki, Adviser at the Interior Ministry.
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Salim al Abdulsalam, Wali of Madha, Shaikh Muhana bin Saif al Lamki, Wali of Diba, and officials at governmental institutions and departments.
Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Transport and Communications Minister said that the Committee yesterday completed its visit to the Governorate of Musandam. It listened to demands and proposals from citizens that related to the development of the governorate.
He pointed out that an integrated report will be prepared to be submitted to His Majesty the Sultan.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) and Television of the Sultanate of Oman, Dr Al Futaisi added that the proposals of shaikhs, dignitaries and some educated citizens were considered, aiming at involving them in plans proposed by the Government to be prepared in the future. He explained that the Committee visited a number of existing institutions, such as, ports and some roads in the governorate in general.
He said that the Committee yesterday viewed the track of the proposed road between Diba and Lima, which is considered as an essential project that serves many villages. He said that in respect to Khasab-Bukha road, the Transport and Communications Ministry is currently studying a number of options and the appropriate one will be selected.
The Transport and Communications Minister added that the ports sector in Musandam will witness during the forthcoming period a big shift in operation, management and development, which will revive the economic and trade movement in the governorate.
On his turn, Ahmed bin Hassan al Deeb, Commerce and Industry Ministry's Under-Secretary for Commerce and Industry, affirmed that the Ministry is currently conducting studies to operate ports in Musandam, aiming at activating their role with participation of the private sector. He also stressed the importance of utilising the location of the governorate commercially in the future.
He explained that the Ministry seeks to deliver Omani products in the markets of the governorate via ships, ferries, air and land transportation.
