Damascus - Minister of Tourism Saadallah Agha al-Qalaa on Saturday discussed with experts of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) the mechanisms of granting the 'TDKWAL' international certificate regarding the quality of tourism training and teaching to the tourism and hotel training centers in Syria to guarantee the quality of teaching and training according to the international standards.
Minister al-Qalaa underlined the importance of training and qualifying cadres in the field of tourism according to the international standards in light of the increasing need for the trained cadres after establishing hundreds of tourist facilities and implementing hundreds of tourism projects.
He expressed the Syrian Government's keenness on establishing more tourism training centers as it specified their number in the 11th five-year plan with 24, in addition to encouraging investment in the domain of tourism training and qualification.
He indicated that there are 7 centers for hotel and tourism training and 16 hotel schools spreading across the Syrian province.
The Minister underlined the importance of the tour that will be done by the WTO's experts to the tourism and hotel training centers in Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, Lattakia and Deir Ezzor.
The WTO's experts called for making the training centers as a core for tourism training accredited on the international level, highlighting the role of the universities and faculties in paying a special attention to tourism in the society through the scientific research.
The two sides also agreed on holding a joint workshop during the first quarter of the current year to discuss and put the strategies of vocational training in the domain of tourism with the participation of the governmental bodies concerned and representatives of Tourism Chambers as well as the private sector.
