Melissa Silva brushed aside Ekaterina Schmeleva 6-0, 6-0 to enter the final of the women's section of the first Jumeirah Beach Club Summer Open late on Wednesday.
Silva will meet Dima Al Sa adi following her hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win against Crystal Pereira in the second semifinals.
It was a tough match played under testing conditions. After winning the opening set 6-3, Dima Al Sa'adi saw her opponent match her to win the second 6-4 and force the decider.
The extreme heat seemed to have taken its toll on Pereira as Dima Al Saadi broke Pereira in the second game and then held serve to take a 3-0 lead. After this, the Dubai teenager never looked back as she wrapped up the set and match 6-1.
In the men's doubles, Ron Rougeaux and Philippe Azar marched into the finals following a walkover from Mark Silva and Michael Maksoudian.
They will meet top seeds Eric Gottschalk and Marco Knobloch after their enterprising 6-1, 6-2 win against Ben Scott and Maher Chinnaoui in the second semifinals.
In an under-18 boys' league encounter, Sami Al Sa'adi breezed past younger brother Hani 6-2, 6-2, while Nikhil Walia eased past Mohammad Al Janahi 6-0, 6-0.
The tournament will conclude with the women's final today evening. This is the first year that this tournament is being held in an attempt to give local players an opportunity to play during summer.
