CARTHAGE - Al-Joumhouri (Republican Party) Secretary-General Maya Jribi, Wednesday, called for speeding up the formation of the new cabinet, adding that "Tunisia can hardly bear a confused situation, even for a few hours."
"Assigning Jebali the task of forming a new government is likely to guarantee stability in the country," Jribi, who was leading a delegation of her party, said following a meeting with Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki.
She also underscored the need to secure the neutrality of sovereign ministries in the upcoming government, highlighting that the latter must be limited in terms of portfolios and include political and apolitical figures.
Fight against violence and the dissolution of militia must be prioritised, she further said.
The next government, Al-Joumhouri S-G said, is called upon to pave the way for holding free and fair elections in a sound climate and focus on urgent issues.
If these conditions are met, the party will announce its total support without being part of the line-up, she assured.
Issam Chebbi, Al-Joumhouri spokesperson, stressed that Jebali enjoys the confidence of the general public and is the best entitled to head the upcoming government.
Appointing someone else would further complicate the situation and would not win the necessary consensus among Tunisians, he pointed up.
In addition to Maya Jribi, the Al-Joumhouri delegation included Issam Chebbi, Said Aidi and Mongi Ellouz.
