CARTHAGE (TAP)-Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki had, on Tuesday evening, a phone conversation with leader of Hamas' political bureau Khaled Mechaal.

The latter informed him that a ceasefire deal had been reached in Gaza Strip and that talks on thorny issues would be resumed within two months.

Mechaal spoke of the bravery and high moral which the Palestinian people demonstrated in the face of the barbarian Israeli aggression as well as their determination to rebuild the Gaza Strip after 350,000 Palestinians lost their homes following the shelling of neighbourhoods and apartment buildings, a Presidency press release said.

The President congratulated Mechaal on "this great victory of Palestinian factions and their resistance in the face of Israeli arsenal" and stressed Tunisia's willingness to keep on supporting "the fight in Palestine and Gaza using available political and material resources."

Marzouki also urged the Tunisian people to stand by Gazans by providing more humanitarian and medical assistance as part of the national campaign of solidarity with the Palestinian people supervised by the Tunisian Red Crescent.

Mechaal told President Marzouki he intends to visit Tunisia shortly "to thank the Tunisian people for the continuous support they extend to Palestinians," adds the press release.
