SHARJAH, 1st October, 2013 (WAM) -- The Maraya Art Centre has announced that it will be hosting a special screening of the short film, "Wonderland: A True Story", in collaboration with the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), on 5th October.
Filmed in Kuwait, it is an adaptation of Lewis Carroll?s Alice?s Adventures in Wonderland and reflects the socio-political similarities between the modern-day situation in that country and the concept of Alice?s Wonderland. Commenting on the event, Maraya Art Centre Manager, Giuseppe Moscatello, said, "This screening forms part of Maraya?s on going efforts to promote home grown and emerging talent from various creative industries. Events such as this one gives students and the community at large a unique opportunity to meet with an aspiring director who can provide real feedback that is particular to our region, which is why we are delighted to be able to present this film to audiences in Sharjah."The film?s writer, producer and director, Dana Al Mojil, received the Special Jury Prize, and was awarded Best Director at the 2012 Gulf Film Festival. "Wonderland", her first film, was also the 2011 Grand Jury Award Winner at the Zero Film Festival. As part of the event, Al Mojil, who has an MFA in Film and Video from California Institute of the Arts and a BFA in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah, will be available for a question and answer session after the screening.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2013.
