Stockholm, Feb. 6, 2009 (WAM) -- Foreign Trade Minister, Shaikha Lubna bint Khalid Al-Qasimi, has met here with the Second Deputy Speaker of Swedish Parliament, Brigita Celine. They discussed achievements made by women in the UAE and the situation of women in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

Shaikha Lubna said women have attained high positions in the UAE and made a lot of significant achievements through the political capacity building programme spearheaded by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, adding that Emirati women are now holding high offices and making significant contributions to the country's development and modernisation drive.

She noted that women now account for 66% of government employees, form a significant percentage of higher office holders in the country and represent about 59% of UAE work force.

Present at the meeting were UAE Ambassador to Sweden, Shaikha Najla Mohammed Al-Qasimi and Chairman of both the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Salah Salim bin Omair Al-Shamsi.
