BASRA - A local official on Sunday authorities launch refurbishment work to al-Zubayr Bridge in Basra.
"A local company would start refurbishment work on linking joints of al-Zubayr bridge, 15 km west Basra,"Ahmed al-Yasiri, chief of Basra's provincial committee for services, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The local official highlighted al-Zubayr bridge is a key structure in border town of al-Zubayr linking the Gulf port and commercial routes to Basra. He put its estimated implementation cost at 80 million Iraqi Dinars(about US$650 thousands).
"Technical problems hampering the delivery of some equipment and the shortcomings in implementation delayed the bridge refurbishment," al-Yasiri noted.
Basra, the oil-hub and Iraq's only port, lies 590 km south Baghdad.
