ALEPPO-Syria -- Safir Hotels and Resorts Co. - a subsidiary of Kuwait Projects Company (KIPCO) - has signed a deal with the Syrian Al-Chami Co. for tourist investment on Saturday to run Safir Hotel in Aleppo, north Syrian.
The contract involving USD 25 million of investments was signed by Safir's Board Chairman Sheikh Fadhel Jaber Al-Sabah and Al-Chami's Board Chairman Abdullah Al-Chami, with Safir's Deputy Chairman and CEO Fawzi Khalifa Al-Mosallam attending.
The eight-storey hotel with a three-level basement covers an area of 2,360 sq meters and consists of 158 rooms; its construction is expected to take 20 months to complete.
The deal affirms Safir's leading role in the hotel management in line with world-class specifications, Sheikh Fadhel said in statements to KUNA after the signing ceremony.
"We have been investing in Syria a long time ago through a chain of hotels in Al-Sayida Zaynab district of Damascus, the central city of Hims, and Ma'loula town in Damascus outskirts," he pointed.
"We believe in quality hospitality and facilities but what makes us different in the hotel management is the genuine interest we show to our guests," he said.
"Safir Hotels and Resorts Co. has an ambitious plan for expansion in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region which is based on our huge material and human resources," Sheikh Fadhel pointed out.
Syria is one of the few countries in the region which have highly promising opportunities for investment in the tourist domain, he said, noting that the investments of his company aim not only at financial profits but also at development of the areas where it operates.
On his part, Al-Mosallam affirmed that Safir plays a pioneering role in hotel management on the regional level.
"The strategy of the company depends mainly on outsourcing Arab cadres and building their capacities," he pointed out.
"In the last five years, the company notched up a high growth rate and opened new markets in MENA.
"With 40 hotels, Safir is competing fiercely against global hotel management firms on the regional market," Al-Mosallam added.
Founded in August, 2004, Safir Hotels and Resorts is a Kuwait-based conglomerate with major interests in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, MENA and beyond.
