TUNIS, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti clubs Al-Arabi and Kazama will participate in the Arab volleyball championship to be held here from February 17-26 with the attendance of 18 clubs from ten Arab states.

Head of media in the championship's organizing committee Ali Al-Safi told KUNA that the two Kuwaiti teams, after arriving here, began training in order to prepare for the tournament which would be hosted by local team Al-Taraji (Esp{rance Sportive de Tunis).

A meeting in order to divide the 18 teams would be held on Friday by the tournament's referee committee, said Al-Safi, adding that Arab championship would be held for the fifth time in Tunisia.

The official indicated that the first stage would start from February 17-20 where the first and second teams in every group would progress into the knockoff stage to be held from February 21-22.

He added the semi-final and final matches would be held on the February 24 and 26 respectively.

The participating teams includes Kazma and Al-Arabi from Kuwait, Shabah Al-Hussein from Jordan, Al-Nassar from Bahrain, Libya's Ahli Tripoli and Etihad, Irbil from Iraq, Ahli Jeddah from Saudi Arabia, Qatar club and Rayyan from Qatar, Dubai's Ahli and Nassar from UAE, Marik and Dim Hamad from Sudan, Palestine's Sanjil and Sadaqa, in addition to Star of the Sahel club (Etoile Sportive du Sahel) and Taraji from Tunisia.

Meanwhile, the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA) headed by Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa would hold a meeting Friday to discuss latest challenges facing this sport in the Arab region.
