TOKYO -- A Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah arrived here Wednesday from SingaporeA for a two-day official visit to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada and to head the Kuwaiti delegation inA the first Japan-Kuwait Joint Committee.

At the airport, Dr. Mohammad was received by Kuwaiti Ambassador Mohamed Al-Roumi, who also serves as Director of the Foreign Ministry's Asia Department, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi and other Kuwaiti diplomats, as well as Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait Masatoshi Muto and Japanese Foreign Ministry officials.

The first ministerial Japan-Kuwait Joint Economic Committee, due later in the day, is to be co-chaired by Sheikh Dr. Mohammad, Okada and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Masayuki Naoshima. The ministerial meeting is expected to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in such areas as human development and environment, according to the working-level preparatory meeting held earlier this week.

The Joint Committee, which was established during the visit to Japan by H.H. the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in July 2008, will help the two countries strengthen and develop their bilateral relations, particularly in the field of economy and commerce. Japan is Kuwait's major trading partner,A with two-way trade reaching USDA 10.53A billion in 2009.
